Like many, I am guilty when it comes to buying into beauty products that either my friends or favourite beauty gurus rant about. If everyone is raving over a product, I want to be included in this hype and see if it lives up to my standards. I’ve tried so many different beauty products within the last year, the good and the bad. As a result, I have done the work for you and come up with a list of products that are not only worth the investment, but also worth the hype.
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector
If I had to live the rest of my life with only one item of makeup, I would choose a highlighter in a heartbeat. I’m a sucker for radiant, bronzed skin and my all time favourite makeup look will always be that J. Lo glow and nude lip. Generally speaking, I believe every girl should have this as a staple in her makeup bag because it gives the skin a natural, healthy glow.
A highlighter that has received a lot of attention is the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Powder. Let me start by saying this highlight IS everything! I have it in the shade Opal, which is a beautiful golden pearl colour. I apply it to the high points of my cheeks, on the tip of my nose, and just above my cupids bow for an all over radiant glow. This product is rated 5 stars on Sephora, and retails for $46.00 CA. It contains .28 oz of shimmering goodness and is worth every penny. I’ve had mine for over 5 months and have hardly made a dent in it because the product is so pigmented, a little goes a long way. Most importantly it lasts all day on my face and chances are you WILL be asked what highlighter you’re wearing when you apply this, because it is a showstopper and the heaven of all highlighters.
Soleil Tan De Chanel
Okay ladies and gents, with summer slowly approaching, a bronzer is a great investment to help you fake that summer time glow year around. I personally prefer cream bronzers over powder, because it leaves a more natural finish on my skin. I was first introduced to this product by one of my favourite beauty gurus, Jaclyn Hill.
The Soleil Tan De Chanel is a luxurious cream bronzing makeup base and contains 1 oz of product. Like all things Chanel, this product comes with a hefty price tag, retailing for $53 CA (ouch). However, after watching endless tutorials on this product and reading multiple reviews, I decided to splurge and try it for myself. I use it to lightly contour my cheekbones and temples, or even as an all over bronzer for my face. Many cream bronzers tend to look muddy, greasy or orange, but I am thrilled to report The Soleil Tan De Chanel is neither! It is extremely important to me that my makeup looks as natural as possible and although this product is expensive, it achieves a look drugstore cream bronzers lack. If you’re willing to invest, this bronzer is worth the price tag and again will last you forever.
Light, Camera, Lashes Inner Rim Liner
A nude eyeliner may seem silly to you, but boy does it make a difference in brightening up your eyes. The problem faced with eyeliner, especially when rimming your waterline, is its lack of longevity. Also, if you have sensitive eyes like myself, it can be difficult to wear eyeliner on your waterline. I’m not a big fan of wearing eyeliner in my waterline to begin with, but recently I was introduced to Light, Camera, Lashes Inner Rim Liner by Tarte.
This Tarte eyeliner is rated 4 stars on Sephora, and retails for $23 CA. It still amazes me what this nude eyeliner does to your eyes. Not only is this the only liner that actually stays in place on my waterline, but it also doesn’t bother my sensitive little eyes. It is a reasonably priced liner, considering it is designed for the purpose of your inner rim and therefore will last you a lifetime. I especially recommend this product if you have small eyes, for it will make your eyes appear bigger, while still looking natural.
I feel most confident with a tan and over the years I have strayed away from using tanning beds and instead sunless tanning products to achieve a beautiful glow. I have tried several different self-tanners, both mousse and spray products, and products that have left me orange and patchy. I heard a lot of positive comments about a self-tanner brand called Loving Tan, based in Australia. After seeing this product all over YouTube and Instagram, I decided to make the purchase and it truly is the best self-tanner I have ever used!! It has a green toned base, which gives the skin a natural brown colour, thus preventing orangeness. Compared to other self-tanners, Loving Tan has a more pleasant scent and doesn’t transfer onto your clothes when dry. Bottom line is that it leaves my skin looking NATURALLY sun kissed and not like I rolled around in Doritos. Check out their website here!
Makeup Geek Foiled Eye Shadow
If you are unfamiliar with the company Makeup Geek, I strongly suggest you become familiar with them! Not only are the majority of their eye shadows $5.99, but the quality is (dare I say) better than Mac eye shadows and not to mention a lot cheaper. If you follow the beauty guru world on YouTube, you would have seen their foiled eye shadows in the hands of many, like Nikkie Tutorials. Their foiled shadows come in 10 different shades and retail for $9.99. These shadows are extremely creamy and pigmented and are unlike any shadow I have ever tried. My favourites are ‘In The Spotlight’ and ‘Grandstand,’ for they are perfect for a bronzed smoky eye. These shadows are well worth the hype and beyond worth the price.
